ÝRÚRARÍ OPEN ATELIER

Ýrúrarí is an Icelandic textile designer, based in Berlin, working with upcycling second hand sweaters in bold and playful way. At the open studio guests can take a look into the designer’s process and the projects she’s currently working on. There will also be an opportunity for visitors to try out some of the textile techniques and have a drink and a chat with the designer.

Ýrúrarí has been active in her field since 2012 and in the recent years her work has evolved into conscious approaches working with second-hand textiles. In 2020 Ýrúrarí collaborated with the textile gathering of the Red Cross in Iceland on the project „Sweater sauce“, nominated to the Icelandic Design awards. In the project Ýrúrarí gave new life and worth to unsellable, stained, tangled or visibly flawed second hand sweaters and turned them into new unique design pieces. The project later evolved into creative visible mending workshops and lectures which have traveled around Iceland, the US, Denmark and Germany. Ýrúrarí is currently working on expanding her approaches and is excited to welcome guests to her studio at Berlin Design week and offer a view into her world.
