Guatemala Showcases the Future of Design at Berlin Design Week 2025

Berlin, May 5, 2025
A new generation of Guatemalan designers presented a unique fusion of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design at Berlin Design Week 2025 – bold, culturally rooted, and internationally acclaimed.

Berlin Design Week 2025 becomes a stage for Guatemalan design. At Amtsalon, designers and creatives from the Central American country will showcase their work – a blend of traditional weaving, modern interior design, and handcrafted objects made from wood, ceramics, and natural fibers.

At the heart of the exhibition is an immersive installation combining architecture, art, and sound. Inspired by the Gran Jaguar Temple in Tikal and developed by Idonika and Amarillo Studio, visitors will be transported into Guatemala’s acoustic landscapes – from the jungle to the marketplace.

Exhibiting labels include Casa Edel with interior objects crafted from local materials, Itza Wood with sustainable furniture from the Guatemalan rainforest, and Nada Duele, known for glassware that merges traditional techniques with modern design.

The project was developed in collaboration with the Instituto Guatemalteco de Turismo (INGUAT) and Madrid Design Festival. It demonstrates how contemporary design can preserve cultural identity while setting new international standards.
