The festival opens with Berlin Design Day – co-organised by Berlin Design Week and Berlin Design e.V. From 2:30 to 7:00 pm, designers, architects and creatives will discuss design, architecture and the future of the industry. Speakers include Julia Krüger (Senior Innovation Manager Creative & Media Industries, Berlin Partner), Nick Stübe (Berlin Design e.V.) and Alexandra Klatt (state of DESIGN GmbH, founder of Berlin Design Week). The Berlin Format · 29 May 2026

The Berlin Format is the centrepiece of Berlin Design Week 2026 – an evening of talks and panels in three thematic blocks: AI & Design, Architecture & Research, and Design & Democracy. AI & Design: Prof. Dr. Oliver Nickel (SWELL GmbH & AMD University) on empathic AI, Barbara Silva (phoenix design Stuttgart) on the product design perspective, Birgit Baier (Bempowered, formerly Frog Design & Razorfish) on digital business transformation. Architecture & Research: Marwan Zabanoot (Architect & PhD Researcher, University of Bath) on urban identity and heritage conservation, Justin Allen (Allen Kaufmann Studio & Objects, Berlin) on contemporary architectural practice. Design & Democracy: Maria Stasevich (OBLIK Berlin), Prof. Dr. Felix Kosok (Professor of Communication Design, German International University Berlin, Director of Design Discourse World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026) and Luc(as) de Groot (LucasFonts Berlin, designer of Calibri and Consolas) on position, responsibility and the digital future.
