At the Budapester Salon, the series Architecture Icons places engagement with contemporary architecture at its centre: on 28 May, architect Martin Jasper will speak about the working methods of his studio Jasper Architects and present projects ranging from urban transformation hubs to elegant retreats in remote landscapes. Architecture is understood here as an open system that not only responds to local conditions but consistently thinks beyond them. The debate format creates space for dialogue between architects, planners and a specialist audience, and is specifically aimed at a professional network from the fields of architecture and planning practice.

At Unique Factory Berlin, an exhibition dedicated to Swedish designer Monica Förster — one of the defining voices in international product design — brings together works from various collaborations under the title Form and Adventure, making their full design range tangible and experiential. Förster’s approach of placing material, production and form in an exciting tension with one another is made as visible as her ongoing engagement with design as process. The opening evening of the exhibition will be enriched by her personal presence. In addition, Monica Förster will appear as a speaker at the conference format The Berlin Format on 29 May from 3 to 8 pm at Die Macherei.

A particular focus is placed on the project Titan, which will be presented for the first time in the context of Berlin Design Week. The four-seat electric super sports car was developed as an interdisciplinary research project, combining design, engineering and experimental manufacturing. The vehicle was created entirely in academic contexts — from bodywork and drivetrain to interior — and was tested, among other places, at the Tatra proving ground in the Czech Republic. Innovative solutions such as an integrated pressure wing and the combination of carbon fibre and 3D-printed components illustrate how research and design interlock. Also located at the Design Hub is the exhibition Guatemala Crafted by Hand, which across approximately 90 square metres connects traditional craft with contemporary design. At its centre is a walk-through installation inspired by Temple I of Tikal, combining architectural references with textile works. The exhibition brings together contributions from studios, craftswomen and textile artists, exploring the connections between cultural heritage, collective practice and design innovation. A multisensory staging of sound, image and material completes the exhibition.

Taken together, the selected programme highlights present Berlin Design Week as a creative platform that brings different disciplines into conversation and brings design to life in its diverse social, technological and cultural dimensions.
