A hands-on workshop with AKO (ALLEN KAUFMANN OBJECTS), developed by ALLEN KAUFMANN ARCHITEKTEN, winner of the ArchDaily Building of the Year 2026 in Interior Architecture. Starting from a flat stack of solid-wood parts, we assemble functional pieces using DT (dovetail) joinery and the patented DADO joinery (Germany). No tools. No screws. No hardware.
We focus on what makes a one-material structure actually work: tolerances, grain direction, wood movement, joinery geometry, thickness decisions, and CNC production logic. The workshop connects traditional joinery knowledge with contemporary precision, showing how locking interfaces turn flat parts into stable three-dimensional furniture, and how removing hardware keeps material integrity while making joinery and design inseparable.
Wood moves, even after it becomes furniture. Our joinery compositions let wood move. In the workshop we move too: building, testing, and discussing wood, architecture, and furniture design.
