Nordic Masterpieces in Berlin: Filmische Baukultur zwischen Hansaviertel und Zimmer 606

With Nordic Masterpieces, a touring exhibition opens in Berlin, re-reading the work of Arne Jacobsen and Otto Weitling from a contemporary perspective. Six atmospheric short films deliberately avoid interviews and spoken commentary, focusing instead on spatial sequences, proportions, materials, light, and use. Architecture is presented not as distant heritage, but as a lived, present condition. For its premiere at LIVING BERLIN, Zimmer 606 introduces an additional focus.

Berlin is more than just the starting point. It is where the project’s approach becomes visible as a whole. With the atrium houses in the Hansaviertel, one of the key locations is embedded directly in the city. The films extend to six sites across Germany, including the glass foyer in Hannover, the seaside resort Burgtiefe on Fehmarn, as well as the Arne Jacobsen House and the Christianeum in Hamburg. Together, they reflect a period in which architecture shaped not only buildings, but also ideas of public life, efficiency, and everyday living.

In Berlin, Zimmer 606 shifts the perspective from architecture to interior. Buildings, furniture, and light are understood as a continuous design approach, extending into the finest details. This is the strength of the Berlin presentation: it traces a Scandinavian design attitude from the urban scale into the interior, showing its relevance today. After Berlin, the exhibition continues in an adapted form in Hamburg and on Fehmarn.
