Historically, social challenges and crises have always triggered new impulses in design. From the Arts and Crafts movement to Bauhaus and ecological design in the 1970s, design has always been a response to social, economic and ecological upheaval.
How is design changing in Europe today in the face of local and global crises? What strategies make up a crisis-proof European design landscape? What role do tradition, innovation, collaboration and the artistic play in this? What is Europe’s strength compared to other regions?
EUNIC Berlin, the network of European cultural institutes, and Aedes Metropolitan Laboratory present projects by selected young European designers. On the one hand, they are rooted in traditional areas of design in their respective countries and can therefore draw on many years of expertise and existing industrial or craft structures, but on the other hand, they are looking for progressive and creative solutions to current challenges with an innovative view to the future.
The Lab Talks will focus on two central topics: design and social processes and resilience in design.
The language of the event is English.
